Denotation
Denotation is the literal meaning of what something looks like. For example, the denotation of this apple is Red with a brown stem and a green leaf.
Connotation
Connotation is different as it means the cultural and spiritual understanding that the word carries. For example, the apple has several deep connotations like love and sexuality, which links to the Holy Bible of Adam and Eve’s story.

The denotation I can get from this picture is that he is wearing a black, leather jacket with a white shirt. He is wearing a ring on his ring finger and futuristic glasses. On the futuristic glasses there is a reflection on it, therefore, he is looking at something outside the picture frame. The connotation I can infer from this picture is that the ring on his finger represents marriage. The leather jacket and white shirt indicates that he dresses smart and formal. The futuristic glasses can show that he is intrigued by technology. I can also infer that this man, by the way he is buttoning up his white shirt, is a very successful person with confidence.

The denotation I can grab from this picture is that he is wearing a suit with a white shirt on top of a building, probably on the film set. He looks to be thinking deeply about something. Behind him is the batman logo on a stage light coloured in gold. The connotation in this picture is that he also dresses smartly; the batman logo in the background can indicate that he has a deep connection with the batman character he has created in his Dark Knight Trilogy. He looks very smooth as he has his hand on his chin.

The denotation I get from this picture is that he has just a white shirt on with what looks like a golden chain around his neck. The connotation in this picture is that he looks like he wants to overpower you with his body language and eyes. He looks confident and seems to know that he is a good-looking guy.

The denotation in this picture is that Samuel is wearing a classy white jacket and leather black shirt inside. He is wearing a old style hat with some sort of pin attached to it and wearing circular glasses. The connotation in this picture is that this shows Samuel Jackson in a new light. It looks like there is more to him than what he is portrayed in movies. With that hat, he looks to be like a painter and those glasses makes him look like an intelligent person. He is not in the center of the picture which looks artistic and he has that face that says he can do anything.

The denotation that I can grab from this picture is that he is wearing a black t-shirt, quite a casual look compared to the other people I have analysed. He has a skull on is shirt as well. He has a dangling ear ring, his hair covers his whole forehead and eyes. The connotation in this picture shows that Nomura has a somewhat pirate themed dressing. The picture is very neutral and just tells us that Nomura dresses up like every other person.
Zack Snyder
This picture shows Zack Snyder in a cotton jacket and underneath it, a black shirt with a diamond symbol which shows similarities to the fictional comic book character, Superman. He is wearing a ring as well on his wedding finger. The connotation the picture shows that he has that look of intimidation, that if you try and mess with him, he will reveal his true power within. His wedding ring on his finger represents marriage. The fact that he is representing a character from the movies he has produced shows that he is well versed in the character.
James Cameron
In this picture James Cameron is wearing a black, wool blazer with a blue shirt. He also has a wedding ring on his finger and is imitating a camera shot with his fingers. He also has a watch on his arm, a very formal presentation. The connotation I can decipher from this image is that James Cameron looks to be very focused as if he were actually filming. Making the camera gesture shows that he truly has a passion for filming. Ring again represents marriage and his clothes could suggest that he dresses smartly when he appears on set.

The denotation I can gain from this is that he is wearing a black coat with a smart shirt. He looks to be at the premiere of Star Wars The Force Awakens and is striking a pose for the camera. The connotation I can take from this picture is that he looks very comfortable and confident. A very simple picture of an actor looking smooth in front of the cameras.
J.J. Abrams
J.J Abrams is kneeling right next to an iconic Robot, R2-D2, from the popular Sci-Fi franchise, Star Wars. He appears to be holding a book and is also showing the book to the robot. They both look to be on set as there seems to be equipment on the top right of the picture. The elements I can take from this is that J.J Abrams is a very motivational person as he is communicating with a nonexistent robot, which also indicates that he is very deep relationship with the characters he is directing. The book indicates that he is intellectual and is prepared something in a book and to also explain what needs to be done for the movie to be great.
Idris Elba
In this picture, the denotation I can infer from this picture is Idris Elba is in a dark room but he is lit up extremely well and he is wearing a grey jacket. This picture represents Idris Elba incredibly as most of the characters he has acted have been a heroic and cool. This aspect also comes from the way he is looking towards the audience with absolute dominance and a seriousness look.
Pictures of me
What I can see from this picture is a classroom full of amazing posters. There is a desk full numerous items such as: Mac computers, mouses, keyboards, headphones, pencil case, notebook, portable hard drive and a phone. I am wearing a blue, black jacket and I am working on the Mac computers. Colleagues in my class said that because I am working on two Mac monitors, it shows how hard working I am and that the several equipments on the desk in front of me also shows that not only I use the computers but I also write notes down which will benefit me into improving and finishing work.
The denotation I can take from this is that there is a green screen behind me, I’m wearing a big jacket and underneath is a white shirt. I am wearing jeans and wearing a line yard. The connotation I can grab from this picture is that this picture is very comedic as I’m pulling a funny posture and face. The green screen indicates that my location is in some sort of film set which may also mean that I might be shooting a funny scene or picture.
The denotation I can take from this picture is that the location that this picture is taken is on the sidewalk as there is a car passing by in the background. I see a hotel on the left and a luxurious house. I am wearing a pattern shirt and jeans and my family are wearing different colour shirts, one with a superman logo and another one with the minion characters from the animation movie ‘Despicable Me.’ When I asked peers they said, it’s a very happy scene with massive smiles, joyful vibes.
In this picture, I am wearing a white shirt and underneath you can see a gold chain. In the background, there is a drum set, microphones, speakers, malt bottle and people. The connotation in this picture is that I look to be focusing on something appealing off camera. The equipment and people in the background can infer that I may be in a different studio. Peers in my class said that I look to be in church hence the smart clothing the golden, cross chain I am wearing.
In this picture I am wearing a blue jumper with a camera in my hands. In the background looks to be a room hence the decorated wall and the curtain. The connotation in this picture is that I am concentrated on the camera, it seems I am taking a picture or filming a shoot. This may indicate that I have a passion for cameras or that I am working very hard.
